The very first time I was on tour with all girl performers, and they were all wonderful to hang out with and so talented. This photo was taken in Christchurch, New Zealand – the last gig of the tour. We would go on to have a bang up after party where everyone let their hair down, and man o man. Hahahaaa!

A few minutes before twilight, Toni Childs, an Emmy winner, three-time Grammy nominee and now a Byron Bay resident made herself at home by sitting the front centre of the stage. Her vocal engine was sparked by the smash hit I’ve Got To Go Now. Her bluesy, soulful vocals driven by those powerful grinding and grilling falsetto drew immediate reaction with utter silence among the audience. It was a shock and awe invasion, as she painfully lyrically narrated about a wife leaving her husband with her kids after a series of domestic violence through those rich throaty, funnelling personification. Stop Your Fussin’ followed as she stood in bare feet and greeted her band members, followed by House of Hope and Don’t Walk Away. Childs took to the floor, greeting the audience while firing her thunder struck vocals. The power, emotion and honesty were catapulting, drawing the audience closer to the stages through those distinctive voice that can only be Toni’s. Toni Childs need to tour across Australia. She, herself was worth of the money spent.

Emmy award winning artist Toni Childs took to the stage without fuss or fanfare, taking a ten-minute technical delay in her stride, as they continued with a sound check. Sitting perched at the front of the stage, she took a photo of the crowd with her phone, gave her guitarist a hug and waited patiently for the sound issues to be sorted out. Finally, with her guitarist sitting by her side, she introduced the band and flowed skilfully and gracefully, opening up into her 1991 hit I’ve Got To Go Now.

Conscious of the intensity of the Queensland afternoon sun, the artist looked absolutely glamorous, happy and comfortable, donned in her wide-brimmed hat and stylish sunglasses, looking completely at home and comfortable in front of her QLD fans.Taking advantage of the photographers in the photo pit in front of the stage, she had two willing participants assist her and took her shoes off, ready to jump up and dance on stage. Barefoot and full of energy, she flowed into her hit Stop Your Fussin, her vocals still as strong in 2023 as they were in 1988.

Toni continued with a dynamic elegance through House Of Hope and lifted the energy up more than a few notches on stage, and throughout the venue, with popular hit Don’t Walk Away. Childs confirmed the decades haven’t changed a thing, bouncing around the stage with a vibrant energy, bringing new music, including her new song Lift, to the fans. Childs showing fans her passion for music and her internal fire are still alive decades after her 1988 debut. Dramatic vocals, bring out a certain vulnerability in her music. Her tracks are a melding pot of intense storytelling backed by hauntingly powerful vocals.

Taking out the set back to where she started, seated perched, on the front of the stage, she performed I Believe In You, singing directly to the crowd. She moved down into the barrier singing alongside her fans, joining in on the loving energy that only music can produce. Back on stage, Toni closed her Sandstone Point performance looking glamorous, confident, happy, and relaxed.

After Germein proved they have the vocals and charm to hold an arena’s attention with a brief set, Toni Childs continued the rock-based vibe, walking on stage barefoot, announcing it was her birthday (so, you just know the crowd is serenading her later), quietly sitting down and after talking of how she’ll be “Starting with the old stuff and then moving to the new stuff”, she kicked off with her 1991 Top 5 ARIA hit “I’ve Got To Go Now”.  Childs, whose distinguished voice silenced the crowd when it was on display, continued her walk down memory lane with “Stop Your Fussin’”, before she introduced her new music, which maintained her funk-meets-rock sound, but incorporated an almost sensory-like experience as she invited Sydney to close their eyes and give into weightlessness.

Very much taking the audience on a journey through time with her evolving sound, Childs finished out by affirming to the audience – and coming off stage to interact directly with her fans – with the lyrics “You are beautiful.  You are gorgeous”, from “I Believe In You”.  Given the reaction, it’s safe to say the crowd felt the same affirmations should be relayed to the Hawaiian-turned-Byron Bay chanteuse.

Fourth Show @ Newcastle Entertainment Centre 31/10/23

The powerhouse that is Toni Childs, her vocals as strong as ever as she belted out hit after hit, including ‘Stop Your Fussin”, ‘Don’t Walk Away’, ‘House Of Hope’ and ‘I’ve Got To Go Now’. Her connection made all the more stronger as Toni explained she wanted to “sing for us” as she battled through some technical issues. Proving that age and time mean nothing when you possess pure talent, Toni belted out her newest song yet to be released ‘Lift’. Then much to the delight of fans the woman who is arguably one of the best female solo vocalists ever, then made her way into the middle of those seated centre stage to get up close to those who adoringly sang along with ‘I Believe In You. (Another song yet to be released)

Review By Nicole Jobes  Click here for full Review

Opening her set with the determined announcement that she is here with her super power to “Pollinate with love”, Toni Childs tells us all “we’re starting with the old stuff and then we’re moving to the new stuff”. And so with that cleared up she begins her set with her 1991 Australian hit ‘I’ve Got to Go Now’. Sitting centre stage, surrounded by her five-piece band, emotively singing the song whilst casually taking off her shoes sets the scene for what’s to come.

‘Stop Your Fussin” is up next, co-written with David Ricketts, the single hales from Child’s debut album ‘Union’, the song keeps you moving & your foot tapping with the African-influenced percussion rhythmically backing the lyrics.

Dancing across stage bare foot, she closes out ‘the old stuff’ with one of her best known songs ‘Don’t Walk Away’. “Are you ready?” Toni teases as she announces we’re moving onto “the new stuff”. New it certainly is, taking on a totally different vibe for the second half of the set.

‘Lift’ cements that new feel and brings with it a fresh sound, a sound that follows through to ‘I Believe in You’. Toni offered a unique experience to fans tonight whilst moving through the crowd singing energetically, she singles out individuals whilst highlighting her powerful lyrics, “I see you, you are beautiful, you are gorgeous” . With everyone up on their feet singing along, Toni glides back onto stage, welcomes her band to join her and take a bow. Tonight, she declared she was going to use her super power, and she did. Using the warmth and depth of her voice, we moved tonight from abuse to empowerment.

Sixth Show @ Launceston UTAS Stadium  04/11/23

“Well, Aloha!” says Toni Childs as she takes a seat at the edge of the stage. “First, we are going to play some really old shit from thirty-friggen-years-ago. We are going to relive the past with little morsels of memory chocolates to taste and then the second half is for the here and now and future,” she says.

Childs unleashes her powerful, booming voice with soulful, bluesy, and raw lyrics delivered with a rough-edged vocal. The strong emotion in her music resonates with her audience as she conjures up a sense of nostalgia with her blast from the past hits from the ‘80s and ‘90s, including House Of Hope, Don’t Walk Away and Stop Your Fussin’.

She stands up as her full band joins in for her energetic and fresh new material and the audience claps along to the unreleased music. “That’s the most I’ve worn shoes in a show, but now I need to take them off to feel more grounded,” she says. The security guard helps her remove her boots so she can move around the stage and roam around the floor area more freely for Because You’re Beautiful. She leaves us with a heartfelt message to shine on, before she takes a final bow with her band and crew.

American-born singer-songwriter, Toni Childs. Toni came out on stage to a quiet reception from the audience, but then proceeded to completely blow everyone out of the water with her distinct sound and powerhouse vocals singing one of her biggest hits, I’ve Got To Go Now. Despite the years gone by and her age, not only does she look amazing, but her pipes are still absolutely incredible and they never faltered once. Toni sang a few of her other older hits including Stop Your Fussin’ and Don’t Walk Away, which had the audience well and truly eating out of her hand. As she ventured into some of her newer material, the audience were thoroughly enjoying themselves, and even more so when she came down into the crowd for her final song. Toni ventured through the audience shaking hands as she delivered her final song which was full of hope, encouragement, and reminding people that they are beautiful, intelligent and worthy.

Eighth Show @ Auckland New Zealand Sparks Arena  09/11/23

Spark Arena was filling up fast, many hurrying to their seats in order to get settled in before the legend that is Toni Childs arrived. Accompanied by a five piece all male band, Toni Childs looked positively ethereal as she casually strolled out in black and white bell-bottom styled pants and black top, long hair cascading down the back of her shoulders.

Now sixty-six, Childs has lost absolutely none of that spectacular intensity. Taking a seat at the edge of the stage, she instantly connected with each and every person in the room. Dropping ‘Stop Your Fussin’ within the first couple of songs, Childs easily had the crowd eating out of the palm of her hand.

With a voice that was absolutely on point, that sumptuous husky undertone that she is well known for, moved through the room intoxicating all, Childs by this point barefoot, her band seamlessly accompanying her as she took one and all through a musical journey that should have been much longer.

Bringing nostalgia, blues and a vivid sense of self, Childs wowed one and all, especially when she moved into her last track ‘I Believe in You’; leaving the stage, Childs picked her way through the front rows, a young girl in yellow catching her eye. Shy at first, Childs soon had her dancing for joy in front of her, the captivating moment bringing a smile to everyone’s faces. Moving towards a gentleman sitting in the middle of the isle, Childs sat down as she serenaded him, her words sang with such genuine warmth that he visibly melted in his seat.

Returning to the front, Childs invited her band to stand by her side as they took a sweeping bow, many in the audience jumping to their feet to applaud them, before Childs playfully bunny-hopped off behind the curtains. Headline show? Yes please!

Citizens of the Planet Unfurled

This traveling comtemporary arts’ experience starts in the foyer with a life size floating elephant tethered by a microfilament netting. On its side is a projected the word ‘evolution’. Hanging from the microfilament are giant digital price tags that name some of the things that are inhibiting our ability to evolve as a planet. Our Citizens of the Planet App gives theatre-goers a chance to add their personal thoughts and ideas to the digital price tags, as well as the eleven additional interactive installations in our Gallery of Everyday Objects, which extrudes out a simple object we use every day – breaking down the resource chain by tracing the raw material, economic impact and political landscape across the globe to our home.

Five talking points are embedded into the framework of the Citizens of the Planet live experience. With the advent of smart phones and multi-platform technology, we invite the audience to begin a dialog by turning on their phones. The citizens of the Planet App will allow the audience to respond in real-time to questions put to them during our taking points. Their responses to questions will be streamed to the screen during the show creating an intimate dialog that will continue to unfold long after the show, with with the COTP social networking site and also in the minds of the audience.

Evolution is the elephant in the room of humanity! And it would appear evolution is standing on its head trying desperately to get our attention.

TALKING POINT – ACTIVATING OUR INTELLIGENCE

In this talking point we explore the biology of intelligence and the impact believing in one’s self has upon our lives and our world. Toni Childs is a futurist and love activist. Her new work Citizens of the Planet asks this question, “When do we get it?” When do we love ourselves and trust ourselves enough to evolve as a collective group and stop the madness of killing each other over assumptions, and disagreements over land, resources, religious and cultural differences?

“I believe in us and our collective ability to finally get it. I am taking a stand for humanity. I believe in a grace that exists in each of us and a massive growth spurt of clarity that is a real possibility. We have what it takes to do it! We have the intelligence and the biology to leap beyond our current expectations.” Toni Childs

TALKING POINT – EVOLVING OUR ANCESTOR’S JOURNEY

Citizens of the Planet celebrates the ancient bones we walk on, and our ancestor who brought us to this point in time southafrica-ed.com/. Citizens of the Planet looks at the diversity of concepts, stories and myths that make up our personal and global dialog with each other, and how our stories can evolve in order to include us all. Humanity has lasted millenniums on this planet. So there is no question we know how to survive.

The question for this time is are we collectively capable of believing it is possible to graduate to a new way of solving global challenges on a personal and global scale. Citizens of the Planet brings to light the necessities that planetary evolution asks of us. This list is both personal and global. What planetary prejudicial beliefs do we personally embody as children of our perspective cultures? And how do we go about dismantling them?

This talking point will be inspiring for some, perhaps confronting for others.

“It has not been an easy thing to be a human being and learn how to put my trust in a stranger. Or to push out beyond the conditioning of my family’s religious beliefs, and collective community structure to discover for myself what it is ‘I’ believe. I’ve had to be willing to stand alone in my questioning and to delve beneath the surface digging into the ancient bones I stand on to discover the many influences, protections and suspicions that have been built one upon another and another for millenniums. I’ve looked into the eyes of what my family’s religions called ‘The Devil’ or ‘Heathen’ only to see another human being who has a different belief system with their own Devils as well”.  – Toni Childs

TALKING POINT – WE WONT WASTE THIS TIME

In this talking point, we discuss off planet mining for resources and the cost to our pockets and the types of constructs controlling resources: water, land, air, seas, food and more. If someone told you there was a way you could save 2.5 million lives a year and simultaneously halt global warming, reduce air and water pollution and develop secure, reliable energy sources – nearly all with existing technology and at costs comparable with what we spend on energy today – why wouldn’t you do it?

According to a new study co-authored by Stanford researcher Mark Z. Jacobson and Mark Delucchi, of the University of California-Davis, we could accomplish all that by converting the world to clean, renewable energy sources and forgoing fossil fuels in 20 years.“ Based on our findings, there are no technological or economic barriers to converting the entire world to clean, renewable energy sources,” said Jacobson, a professor of civil and environmental engineering. “It is a question of whether we have the societal and political will.”

TALKING POINT – PLANETARY RESOURCES 101

Our intelligence lies in our ability to create, problem solve and retain a healthy balance between commerce and our planet’s resources. We take a look at how ingredients for products we use every day are farmed, mined and then refined, modified, manufactured and synthesized. How wars over land acquisitions and resources are embedded into the products used in our homes. It is important to understand where the resources that make up what we buy come from.

Toni wants to shine a light on the fact that we are indeed corporate farmers, what we buy we grow. If we don’t buy it, they won’t manufacture it. We take a look at what a single purchase creates on a global scale, and how we buy and what we buy is absolute power!

TALKING POINT – BECAUSE YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL

Can we agree that loving one’s self is at the heart of our evolution process? All of us struggle in some way with a beauty wound. To evolve we have to find a way to push through our personal insecurities to embrace that we are deserving of a beautiful life – as there are the seven generations and beyond that come after us. It is time to stand for ourselves and our beautiful planet. It is our responsibility to believe that we do have a part to play in the unfolding destiny of planet Earth.

“I want to reflect the humbling beauty that is both our planet and ourselves, and present opportunities for re-framing, empowerment and conscious engagement with our lives and it’s impact on the planet. No matter how hard we want to hide, keep our heads down, or turn away from the challenges that face us both personally and globally, Citizens of the Planet asks us to activate the Hero Option. The Hero Option is our ability to respond in intelligent ways by stretching toward solutions and learning that our conscious participation has a quantum effect on the planet’s sustainability!”

Three months of touring without a break. Here are some photos that Christian O’Donnell my wonderful guitarist, captured before each performance.

Each theatre is unique. I can now say that I have played every nook and cranny of Australia – truly kamagra pris!!

A big thank you and congratulations to everyone at Big Mother Touring Company! We did it! Thank you Laree Thorsby our in-house Tour Coordinator and Tour Manager, Thank you Rae Mitchell our merch and advertising b**ach, and Karen Linsday at Little Sparrow PR and Advertising!

Our first national tour was a massive success and we all learned a hell of a lot in the process! I knew we would make mistakes. Thankfully, the mistakes that we did make were easy to get a handle on and course correct so as not to effect ticket sales.

I am proud of everyone and so grateful, we all had the courage to embark on the journey together!! Thank you!

Reef 360… what is it? https://www.tonichilds.com/2022/01/24/reef-360-a-underwater-concert/ Sun, 23 Jan 2022 15:43:15 +0000 http://tonichildsnewsite.tonichilds.com/?p=11786

An underwater concert for whales and dolphins!

Yeah, I know! It sounds crazy, right?!

Well, CRAZY turns out to be a really beautiful place to be!

Here are two of the songs I’m inspired to sing to them.

Stardust Time Dreamer

I am planning to give a series of underwater concerts for whales and dolphins in the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) and film my adventure for a unique 45 min 360 experience called, ‘Reef 360’ that will travel in a 15 meter dome in regional towns, and a 20 meter dome in city suburbs.

Starting in Perth we embark on a two month journey to film a series of underwater concerts on a vessel that accommodates 17 people with a two person submersible on the stern.

We will film the big whales to start south of Perth, and head north to Ningaloo to perform for the whales sharks, then sail up across the top end of Australia to the Great Barrier Reef; where I will sing for the Minke whales and other underwater inhabitants in various spots teeming with life on the GBR and other Marine Parks that surround Australia.

As I see it, the only way to tell a moving story that inspires action is through awe, wonder and play. My mission over the coming decade is to give men, women and children a way to be part of taking care of what is most precious – the ecosystems that keep our bio sphere thriving for years to come.

The ‘Awe Experience’ takes us on a journey. It entices us into a mini revolution, an internal revolt that opens us.

Without asking for permission, it evolves our perceptions, our beliefs and the way we relate to the world around us. It is an experience that turns on a light inside us when we least expect it!

I gave my first successful u

nderwater concert test off Michaelmas Cay in the Great Barrier Reef. I have invested more than a 150k into my underwater gear, transportation and filming thus far. I wish is to do it again next year for two months this time, with a ten person crew.

I initially reached out to IKONIX, an Australian based team of professionals producing bespoke content and immersive environments using video, lighting, audio and architecture for a three part installation for museums. After reviewing my vision, they asked if I’d consider turning my initial three piece underwater concert installation into something much bigger.

Big Mother Touring is now doing the leg work needed to present Reef 360 in domes that will tour regional towns and cities across Australia over a five-year period of time, starting in regional towns in the first year.

Reef 360 is an opportunity for people across Australia to ensure coral species survive whilst we follow through with innovative solutions to cool reefs, like using the natural currents to distribute the deeper cooler water across the reef as a whole. This could be initiated right now! Add in Greening Australia’s initiative to repair the gullies and restore the wetlands that effect the GRB together we create a cocktail of NGOs working together to inspire a focused movement for ocean-centric and land management NGOs to work together. As I see it this is what we need onthe planet right now.

There are many individual organisations, scientist and environmentalists working singularly, but what happens they could work together. If you have an Oboe player playing alone in a concert hall or a cello it is not as effective to communicate a complete piece of music. But many instruments working together can create something magnificent to behold.

The environmental concern is the song, the individual organisations are the instruments in the orchestra. Working together in concert is the solution, and ultimate beautiful story!

This one-of-a-kind (((WOW!!!))) entertainment and educational experience gives children and adults the opportunity to participate in initiatives such as (but not limited to) adopting a coral species [GBR Legacy], hands-on repairing and restoring gullies and wetlands [Greening Australia], and adopting local marine reserves where invasive species require management [South East Marine Park Network and GBR Marin Park], and encourage them to come up with novel and unique solutions to issues at a local level.

We are committed to engaging young minds with an engineering design competition at universities to come up with innovative ways we can cool our reefs for future generations using wave energy to pump deeper cooler water across the natural currents that distribute water across the GBR in order to reduce future coral bleaching events.

Reef 360 is on the road to entertain, educate and connect marine scientists with primary, high school and university educators, giving children and adults the opportunity to literally adopt a coral species whilst being a part of a national GBR education fundraising initiative; plus other initiatives mentioned above; and more that will be announced.

“As coral reefs worldwide decline due to climate change, severe storm events and coral disease, the Great Barrier Reef Legacy team have decided it is time for ground breaking action to help preserve our reefs. Current approaches to securing the health and biodiversity of corals are not working, and with each coral bleaching event we are losing vulnerable coral species and reefs around the world.

Therefore, GBR Legacy have officially partnered with Corals of the World and Cairns Marine to safeguard the biodiversity of all known hard coral species by creating the worlds first Living Coral Biobank.” – Great Barrier Reef Legacy

The Reef 360 Dome features three – 360 format films: a 45 minute underwater concert performed by me; as well as two documentaries by Prospero Productions, in conjunction with an educational component where marine scientists engage directly with students.
The primary objective of these films is to: highlight the beauty and wonder of our oceans, as well as the current environmental issues the GBR and Marine Parks surrounding Australia face, and to inspire young people to have a voice in the conversation. Giving them and their families ways to participate in solutions for managing and protecting the health and well-being of our all important marine environment for future generations.

I personally feel we need to invest and build bridges into regional areas around the world by bringing top shelf music-driven spectacle to seed emerging solutions into communities who are often left out.

The Reef 360  includes viewings for the general public which include: Xtreme Sport, Live Music and Dancing Under-the-Sea, as well as mindful activities like yoga under the sea in the mornings before three school sessions. We plan to interface directly with schools in each town during the day. Laree Thorsby, Reef 360’s Tour and Education Coordinator is a teacher and tutor which makes her the perfect person to lead the educational modules.

Inspired by the Cirque du Soleil touring model, the domes will travel from town to town. They will be up for two weeks or more depending on the size of the town or city bringing the spectacle and awe of the ocean to regional towns that are normally left out of being exposed to exceptional out-of-the-box entertainment.

Cirque du Soleil took the world by storm. It created a blue ocean of new market space. Its blue ocean strategic move challenged the conventions of the circus industry. Cirque’s productions have been seen by more than 150 million spectators in more than 300 cities around the world.

A compelling aspect of Cirque du Soleil’s success is that it did not win by taking customers from the already shrinking circus industry, which historically catered to children. Instead, it created uncontested market space that made the competition irrelevant. It appealed to a whole new group of customers: adults and corporate clients prepared to pay a price several times as great as traditional circuses for an unprecedented entertainment experience לויטרה 20 מ”ג מחיר.”

Cirque du Soleil succeeded because it realized that to win in the future, companies

must stop competing in red oceans. Instead, they should create blue oceans of uncontested market space and make the competition irrelevant. ‒ Blue Ocean Strategy

By taking stunning, moving inspired entertainment that focuses on simple things we can do together – on the road – to where it is most needed on the planet, which are rural areas, we can create a Blue Ocean Strategy for the environment that opens hearts and minds.

As a performing artist and environmental activist living in the time of covid-19, innovation and adaptation is paramount. Seizing the opportunity to turn Reef 360 into a touring

vehicle is innovation in action.

THANK YOU IKONIX FOR THE INSPIRATION!

AND

THANK YOU PROSPERO PRODUCTIONS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Big Mother Touring and Reef 360 are targeting 80 regional towns over the next five years. Scroll down for a list of towns and theatres I have pollinated for many years now.

Below are two of the songs that inspired me to want to sing to whales and dolphins. They are also a part of a new album of music and a new 3D mapping show called It’s All a Beautiful Noise… Enjoy!

I am currently looking for like-minded individuals and organisations to support us in making Reef 360 a reality. Please contact us at admin@bigmotherentertainment.com if you are interested in learning more.

Radical Alignment Retreat – Bali, 2022 https://www.tonichilds.com/2020/01/20/radical-alignment-retreat/ Mon, 20 Jan 2020 03:51:16 +0000 http://tonichildsnewsite.tonichilds.com/?p=4370 Ubud Bali December 4th – 9th 2022

This very special Bali Retreat is about identity. It is about perception and meeting ourselves differently.  Releasing our historical relationship to how we perceive and judge ourself to be, we begin to focus on what inspires us and what wants to take us on an adventure – programming attitude sets a new ((( tone ))) And life is all about tone.

This is a Rite of Passage through the Portal of Death.

My retreat is all about rolling up our sleeves digging into creating support strategies to allow what is not in alignment to fall away.

This is a MASTER CLASS experience that introduces you to a part of yourself that has been waiting for connection for a long long time!

Regardless of whether you attend my retreat take the time to find a guide and clear the things that keep you stuck in being a victim or staying small. Our planet needs you to have the ride of your life and participate in the most incredible decade of our lifetime!! We are all being called to drop the baggage, and show up and care for ourselves and our planet at-casinos.com!! Kisses!!

If you would like to more and reserve your place now email us at info@tonichilds.com
