frankie magazine is a national bi-monthly based in Australia, aimed at women (and men) looking for a magazine that’s as smart, funny, sarcastic, friendly, cute, rude, arty, curious and caring as they are. We cover design, art, photography, fashion, travel, music, craft, interiors and real-life stories – we aim to surprise and delight readers with every turn of our beautifully matte pages, and have a good old laugh while doing so.
It’s inspiring to see a women’s magazine that doesn’t exclusively focus on beauty and bodies. The people in the magazine are certainly stylish and pretty but also real. There’s a bit of an anti-fashion thing going on, which is not new, but certainly still refreshing. The clothes and accessories featured range in price but stay in a realistic price bracket. Instead of dieting tips, they’ve got cute ‘how to’ tips – recipes for how to throw a dinner party on a tight budget and that sort of thing.
frankie is aiming at an urban, well educated and reasonably affluent audience. It’s for women but it’s not girlie. Smart design that’s easy on the eye hooks you in; the content is good but could have a bit more depth. The white space is great! They’re trying to cater to a wide and choosy market – 20 somethings (what does that mean really? 18 – 33? 20 – 25? Late 20s?) – but maybe they need a little less diversity and a bit more substance libido-portugal.com? It’s only beginning and as far as beginnings go, they’re doing pretty well. I’m curious to see where they take it.
