We are a growing group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, including individuals and organisations, calling on the Government to: Double funding for Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas by 2020;
Commit to longer term funding for Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas; and support a national target of 5000 Indigenous land and sea management jobs by 2030.
Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas are a contemporary expression of the unbroken and ancient connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to this continent.
Empowering Indigenous people to harness their traditional knowledge, connection to country and access to modern scientific conservation methods is a win-win for the environment and the wellbeing of communities and individuals.
We recognise the Federal Government’s Indigenous Protected Area and Indigenous ranger programs as transformative opportunities for Indigenous land and sea management. We believe these programs should be expanded and their future should be secured beyond the current deadline of 2018.
The Country Needs People campaign is not-for-profit, nonpartisan and works with all sides of politics for a positive outcome.
ADD YOUR VOICE to ours to help make Indigenous Protected Areas and Indigenous Rangers – and all the benefits they bring to Australia – even stronger!
